Terms of Service
Last updated: August 10, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of ScholarMatch AI (“ScholarMatch,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), the AI-powered college matching platform available at myscholarmatch.ai (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility & Student Accounts
The Service is intended for high school and college students exploring their college options. Many of our users are minors. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. If you are under 13, a parent or guardian must create and manage your account.
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep it up to date.
2. The Service
ScholarMatch AI analyzes 6,000+ U.S. colleges across a multi-factor matching engine — six core factors for every student, plus affordability and further factors where the student's answers make them relevant — and provides personalized college recommendations, career-outcomes data, and EMMA, our AI college advisor. Depending on your plan, the Service may also include a saved-schools list, an interactive map, a financial aid estimator, side-by-side comparison, an application tracker, AI essay feedback, and read-only share links. Which of these you get depends on the plan you are on; the pricing page lists every feature under each plan explicitly.
All recommendations, scores, narratives, and estimates are informational only and do not guarantee admission, scholarships, financial aid, or any particular outcome. The financial aid estimator in particular produces an estimate from published institutional costs and your own answers — it is not an aid offer, not a FAFSA or SAI determination, and no college is bound by it. You should always consult a qualified college counselor, and each school’s financial aid office, before making decisions.
3. Accounts & Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at support@myscholarmatch.ai if you suspect unauthorized use.
Share links (Section 5) are an exception you control: they let someone read your report without signing in. You are responsible for who you send a link to and for revoking it when it is no longer needed.
4. Acceptable Use
When using the Service, you agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
- Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information.
- Submit an essay, or other written work, that is not your own.
- Copy, scrape, reverse engineer, or attempt to extract the Service’s source code, data, or models.
- Share, sell, or transfer your account or your login credentials to others. (Creating a share link under Section 5 is permitted — that is a feature of the Service, not a breach of this rule.)
- Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its AI systems.
5. Share Links
Full Year purchasers can create a share link so that a counselor, parent, or guardian can read a read-only copy of their report. Anyone holding the link can open the report without an account and without signing in — the link itself is the only credential. If a recipient forwards the link, whoever receives it can open the report too.
You decide who gets the link, and you can revoke it at any time, which stops it working immediately. We cannot claw back anything a viewer read or copied while the link was live.
A viewer sees your first name, your matched schools, their fit scores, and the explanations. They cannot see your surname, email, intake answers, or essays, and they cannot change anything.
If you are under 18, we ask that a parent or guardian agree before you create a share link.
A person viewing a shared report is not a party to these Terms and has no account with us, but the report they are reading is subject to the same disclaimers that apply to you: it is informational only, it is AI-generated in part, and it does not guarantee any admission or aid outcome.
6. Purchases, Access & Payments
ScholarMatch is sold as one-time purchases, not subscriptions. There are two: the Match Report ($49.99), which gives you 30 days of access, and Full Year ($199.99), which gives you 12 months of access. Access runs from the date of purchase — Full Year bought in April runs to the following April. Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor, Stripe; we do not store your full payment card details.
Nothing renews automatically. There is no recurring charge, no subscription to cancel, and we do not keep a card on file to charge again. When your access period ends, it simply ends. If you want access again, you buy again.
What each purchase includes. The Match Report includes one match report and three retakes (answer changes), and shows your top 10 matches. Full Year includes unlimited reports and retakes and shows your top 25. These allowances belong to the purchase itself and are used over the life of that purchase — they are not monthly allowances and they do not reset while your access is running.
When your access ends. Reports you already generated remain readable in your account. What stops is generating new ones and using the features that come with an active purchase. Your data is not deleted because access lapsed.
Upgrading. If you hold an active Match Report and upgrade to Full Year, the $49.99 you already paid is credited against the Full Year price.
Refunds and price changes. Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable, including where you have used part or all of what a purchase includes. We may change prices or what a purchase includes at any time; because these are one-time purchases, any such change applies only to purchases made after it takes effect and never alters access you have already bought.
7. EMMA, Our AI Advisor
EMMA provides general guidance generated by artificial intelligence. Her responses may be incomplete or inaccurate and are not professional admissions, legal, financial, or counseling advice. Always verify important decisions with a qualified professional.
Essay feedback (Full Year). If you paste an essay draft into EMMA, she will comment on it. She is instructed to give you feedback rather than to rewrite your work, because the essay has to remain yours. Note that colleges and high schools set their own rules about AI assistance, and some require you to disclose it. Those rules are theirs, and following them is your responsibility, not ours.
Voice. Speaking to EMMA is handled by your web browser, and depending on the browser your audio may be sent to that vendor to be transcribed. EMMA’s own speaking voice is generated by a third-party text-to-speech provider (ElevenLabs) from the text of her reply, with your browser’s built-in voice as a fallback. Section 4 of our Privacy Policy explains both directions in full. You can use EMMA entirely by typing if you prefer.
8. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, content, and matching engine, is owned by ScholarMatch and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive license to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial purposes. This license is not transferable, except that you may create a share link under Section 5, which lets a person you choose read your own report.
Your content stays yours. The information you provide — including any essay you submit for feedback — remains your property. You grant us only a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to process that content for the sole purpose of providing the feature you asked for: generating your matches, answering your questions, or returning feedback on your essay. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account.
We do not use your essays or other personal content to train AI models, to improve our matching engine, or for any purpose other than returning the result you requested. Essay drafts are not stored in our database.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that third-party data (including federal data sources) is accurate or complete.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScholarMatch will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months before the claim.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service or other users. You may stop using the Service at any time. Because purchases are one-time and nothing renews, there is no subscription to cancel; you may delete your account at any time, and doing so does not entitle you to a refund of an unexpired access period except where required by law.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will provide notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
14. Contact Us
The Service is operated by ScholarMatch AI Inc., a Delaware corporation (File No. 10701067).
