• Profile & academic information: date of birth, grade level, current and intended schools, GPA history, SAT/ACT scores, AP/IB courses, intended major, extracurricular activities, and other responses you provide in the intake.
• Preferences: your location, schools you are considering, interests, and goals.
• Payment information: processed by our payment processor, Stripe. We receive limited billing details such as your subscription status, but we do not store your full payment card numbers.
• Usage data: device and browser information, pages visited, and interactions with the Service, used to operate and improve it.

We use your information to:

• Generate your personalized college matches, reports, and career-outcomes data.
• Power EMMA, our AI college advisor, and answer your questions.
• Create and manage your account and subscription.
• Process payments and prevent fraud.
• Communicate with you about your account and the Service.
• Maintain, secure, and improve the Service, and comply with legal obligations.

EMMA and our narrative features use a third-party AI provider (Anthropic’s Claude) to generate responses. Relevant profile context and the messages you send are transmitted to this provider to produce results. We do not use your personal data to train third-party AI models, and our providers process your data under their own terms and security commitments.

College information presented in the Service is derived from public federal sources, including IPEDS, the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard, and PSEO/U.S. Census Bureau data. This is institutional data and is not your personal information.

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:

• With service providers who help us operate the Service — for example, Supabase (database and authentication), Anthropic (AI), and Stripe (payments) — under contractual protections.
• When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of ScholarMatch, our users, or others.
• In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

We retain your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your data at any time.

You can:

• Access, correct, and update much of your information directly from your dashboard.
• Request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it.
• Cancel your subscription at any time from your account.
• Exercise additional rights that may apply depending on your location (for example, under the CCPA/CPRA or GDPR) by contacting us.

The Service is used by students who may be minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you are under 13, a parent or guardian must create and manage your account. Parents or guardians may review or request deletion of their child’s information by contacting us.

We use industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security on our database — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication and to keep you signed in. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work without them.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice.
